Friends of Marlborough District Libraries invite you to a presentation by local historian/author Barry Holdaway about his recently published book: ‘The Wairau and its Forgotten Capital’ , a narrative of life at the Wairau Bar during the mid- 19th century. Hear about early Pakeha involvement with the area, beginning with the so-called Blenkinsopp Purchase of 1832 and following the settlement through to the 1860s.
Barry Holdaway is a retired farmer from Dillons Point, near Blenheim who has had a lifelong interest in the history of the Wairau Bar area. He is a researcher and writer, a member of the Marlborough Historical Society and served on the Archives Council of New Zealand in Wellington from 2009-2015.
